The relationship between Gilgamesh and the Old Testament (Genesis 6-9)
There is a relationship between the story of the flood in Gilgamesh and the story from the Hebrew Bible. In Gilgamesh the Gods decide to destroy mankind through a flood. Utnapishtim found out there was going to be a flood so he brought a crew to help him escape. Noah saved God’s story and faith from the flood, while Utnapishtim followed directions from the Gods. Noah brought his family on the boat with him, his family is important to him.
The emphasis and morals were different in both stories. Noah did what was right to do and brought his family, Utnapishtim did what was best for himself. In both Gilgamesh and the Hebrew Bible, the Gods promise to never kill mankind with a flood again. Both Noah and Utnapishtim were both rewarded with immortality after they survived the flood produced from the Gods.
Comparisons between the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Odyssey, and the Aeneid
The Epic of Gilgamesh had a big influence on the Odyssey and the Aeneid. Both Gilgamesh and Odysseus encounter a girl who can turn men into animals, Ishtar in Gilgamesh and Circe in The Odyssey. Both Gilgamesh and Odysseus visit the Underworld and have an opportunity for immortality but fail to gain it. Gilgamesh loses the plant and it happens to Odysseus when he leaves Calypso’s island.
In the Odyssey, the Gods talk to Telemachus to tell him his father is alive. Throughout the Odyssey the Gods try to make Odysseus’s life more challenging, even though he is favored by the Gods. Odysseus's goal is to return home to Ithaca, he craves victory. Odysseus grows in wisdom throughout his journeys.
In Aeneid, the Gods try to guide him so he is able to complete his goal to find a new city. Fate is a big theme in Aeneid, Aeneas is constantly reminded of his fate throughout the story, even though he is not able to change his destiny. Immortality does not exist in Aeneid, the belief of reincarnation is emphasized.

The Gods decide the fates of the protagonists in these stories. First, the Gods create Enkidu and him and Gilgamesh become good friends. The Gods become angry with Gilgamesh because of the words he spoke to Ishtar and he made it worse by killing the Bull of Heaven. They decide that he has gone too far and one must die, but to punish them both.
The Gods believe that Enkidu should be sacrificed and Gilgamesh will be spared. By Enkidu dying, Gilgamesh faces mortality and goes on a quest to try to find immortal. In the end, Gilgamesh realizes that his purpose is to be great king while he is living and not to be immortal.
